Before you compress: every page is turned into an image. That shrinks scanned PDFs a great deal, but on a vector sheet exported from Revit or CAD the file usually ends up LARGER, and the text stops being selectable and searchable. If the result comes out worse, the tool says so and keeps your original file available.

How to compress a PDF

Frequently asked questions

Why did my PDF get bigger after compressing?

Because it is probably a vector file exported from Revit or CAD. Compression turns each page into an image, and that usually weighs more than the original vectors. It works well on scanned documents, not on vector sheets.

Does the text stay searchable?

No. Since every page becomes an image, the text stops being selectable and searchable. If that matters, keep the original file instead.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Everything runs inside your browser, on your own computer, and no file is sent to us or to anyone else. You can check for yourself: once the page has loaded, the tool keeps working with the internet turned off.

Which level should I pick?

Start with medium. If the file is still too heavy to attach to an email, try high and check that it still reads comfortably at the zoom you use.
